To protect the oceanic posidonia meadows, a vital and protected marine ecosystem, a special surveillance operation has been launched in Xàbia to prevent illegal anchoring in these sensitive areas. The initiative is a collaboration between the Guardia Civil, via the Fiscal and Border Detachment of Dénia, and the Local Policía de Xàbia, working together both at sea and from the air. The operation has been active for several days.

A surveillance drone supports the effort, coordinating with on-the-ground teams to enable faster, more precise monitoring and immediate identification of vessels anchoring in prohibited areas. Inspections have been carried out along the most vulnerable stretches of the coast, with reports filed against vessels violating regulations, in line with established environmental protection measures.

Oceanic posidonia meadows play a crucial role in marine biodiversity, water quality, and coastal erosion prevention. Their conservation is both an environmental and legal priority, and unauthorized anchoring poses a serious threat to their survival. Therefore, Xàbia Council calls on all boat owners to respect protected areas, use designated mooring buoys, and help preserve this valuable natural heritage.
