CREAMA, through the Observatori Marina Alta, has analyzed employment in the region for September and, as expected, the end of the tourist season brought a small slowdown with unemployment rising slightly and Social Security registrations falling a bit, a pattern typical for September.

Last month, 2,819 fewer people were registered with Social Security, and 93 more people were unemployed. Compared to September 2024, this drop is a little larger, but it is normal after a summer peak. In fact, July 2025 saw record-high employment numbers, so September usually shows a seasonal adjustment.

Looking at the year as a whole, Social Security registrations increased by 1,625 people, much higher than last year’s change, and the rise in unemployment is very small compared to typical September patterns.

Youth unemployment remains low, the lowest for September since records began, at 339 people. However, it did increase by 76 young workers, while unemployment among older workers stayed almost the same.

In total, 7,559 people were registered as job-seekers in September, the lowest September figure since 2007. Compared to last year, this is a drop of 661 people or -8.04%.

Unemployment increased for both men and women, but the rise was higher among women (+67 people, +1.59%). On the bright side, more than 60% of new contracts were permanent: 2,190 in total, up 30.75% from August and 2.34% from September 2024. Most of the jobs were part-time (1,811) compared to full-time (1,492), but both types increased over the year.

According to the Observatori Marina Alta (CREAMA and PACTE’MA), the region’s unemployment rate is 10.55%, lower than last September (11.63%) and below the provincial and regional averages (Alicante 13.33%, Comunitat Valenciana 11.78%).

The full report, including detailed figures on registrations, unemployment, and contracts, is available in the “Sector Reports” section on the Observatori Marina Alta website.
