Javea is set to kick off 2026 with a splash as the annual New Year’s Day Charity Swim returns to Arenal Beach on Thursday 1st January at 1.00pm. Organised by Lancashire Bruja, the event promises icy waters, wacky costumes, and a sea of cheerful supporters.

The charity swim comes hot on the heels of the popular Elf Run, also organised by Lancashire Bruja, and aims to raise funds for three deserving causes. Participants and spectators alike are encouraged to join the fun and donate: Cruz Roja Jávea (Red Cross of Javea), supporting local families in need of essential supplies, Clinica La Vision in Madagascar, led by Quentin Blaise and Jessica Zimmermann, providing vital eye care to children and families in Fort Dauphin, and PC Solutions, headed by Heidi Eckert, assisting over 20 local families weekly, including homeless individuals and those in urgent need.

“Sponsored Bar Swimmers” traditionally gather at The Lancashire Bruja for a quick tipple before making their way down to the Christmas Tree on the Arenal beach around noon. Volunteers, including the staff of the bar and their “little helper elves,” will be walking the beach collecting donations, ensuring every penny goes to the three charities. For those unable to make it to the beach, donation jars will be available at the bar and Humpty Dumpty Papershop in Javea Park, allowing everyone to contribute to the good cause.

Whether jumping into the sea or cheering from the sidelines, locals are encouraged to join the spirited event and start the new year with a splash for charity.
