In July, the regional government’s plenary session approved the decree establishing the official working calendar for the Comunidad Valenciana for 2026.

The calendar, which received a mandatory prior report from the Tripartite Council for the Development of Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining of the Comunidad Valenciana, was published a few days later in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV).

Its approval also took into account the resolution of Les Corts – the Spanish Parliament – recognizing the Fogueres de Sant Joan as a regional holiday.

As a result, a total of 12 paid, non-recoverable working days are officially declared in the Comunidad Valenciana for 2026, on the dates listed below:

  • Thursday 1st January, New Year’s Day
  • Tuesday 6th January, Epifanía del Señor
  • Thursday 19th March, San José
  • Friday 3rd April, Viernes Santo
  • Monday 6th April, Lunes de Pascua
  • Friday 1st May, Fiesta del Trabajo
  • Wednesday 24th June, San Juan
  • Saturday 15th August, Asunción de la Virgen
  • Friday 9th October, Día de la Comunitat Valenciana
  • Monday 12th October, Fiesta Nacional de España
  • Tuesday 8th December, Inmaculada Concepción
  • Friday 25th December, Natividad del Señor

Among the holidays not observed in 2026 is Día de la Constitución (December 6th), which falls on a Sunday. Many people may request Monday 7th December to combine it with the 8th – known as “el puente” – as established case law indicates that when a holiday coincides with a Sunday and is therefore not observed, it should be compensated with an alternative day off, typically the following Monday, provided it is a working day.

In addition to the holidays listed on the official calendar, each city or town may designate two local holidays. In Xàbia, these are normally May 3rd (La Súbida de Jesús Nazareno – the final day of the celebrations honouring the town’s treasured image) and September 8th, the final day of the celebrations honour the patron saint of the port zone, Mare de Déu de Loreto. Since May 3rd falls on a Sunday in 2026, another day may be established as a local bank holiday in Xàbia as decreed by the Ayuntamiento de Xàbia.
