CF Unión Deportivo Calpe was formed in 2018, inheriting the legacy and passion for football in town after the dissolution of Calpe CF in the same year. Facing significant financial difficulties and having only nine players available to compete, the original club failed to fulfil a fixture in the Regional Preferente in April 2018, leading to expulsion from the league. In response a new club – CF UD Calpe – was established, a separate entity which would represent a fresh start for football in Calpe, focusing on community engagement and youth development, rather than a continuation of the previous club’s operations.

The new club began life at the bottom of the ladder, allocated a place in Group 12 of the SEGUNDA REGIONAL for the 2018/19 season. It made an immediate impact, capturing the championship with an impressive record of 21 victories in 26 matches and suffering just a single defeat. The club carried this momentum into the following season, cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic, but nonetheless finished at the top of Group 7 of the Primera Regional. This strong performance secured promotion to the Regional Preferente, the highest tier of amateur regional football in the Comunidad Valenciana at the time, the very level at which Calpe CF had been competing before its dissolution.

In the post-pandemic recovery period, CF UD Calpe competed in the Regional Preferente as football gradually returned to its pre-pandemic structure. In the 2021/22 season, the club reached the quarter-finals of the inaugural Copa Comunitat Mediterrànea (La Nostra Copa), defeating CD Jávea, Racing CF Benidorm, CD Dénia, and CE Alberic before crashing out to eventual finalists Unión Benetúser-Fabara CF 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Over the course of the 2022/23 season, the club delivered a solid campaign in Group 3, ultimately finishing in 9th place. This position was sufficient to secure a place in the inaugural Lliga Comunitat for the following season, the newly established top tier of regional football in the Valencian region.

CF UD Calpe completed the 2023/24 season in the best position in its young history, finishing fourth in the southern group of the Lliga Comunitat. The club narrowly missed out on a promotion play-off spot, ending level on 51 points with CD Olímpic. However, a 3-1 defeat to the Xàtiva side meant CF UD Calpe was edged out on the head-to-head record, denying them the chance to contest for promotion.

The following season proved far more challenging for CF UD Calpe. With just eight wins in 30 games, the club struggled throughout the campaign and found itself slipping toward the bottom three. A run of seven defeats in the final eight matches left them in 13th place, perilously close to relegation. Their survival, however, was secured thanks to fellow Marina Alta side CD Dénia, whose disastrous end-of-season streak of eight consecutive losses saw the Dianense club drop into the bottom three, ultimately taking the relegation spot that CF UD Calpe narrowly avoided.

The club’s performance issues have continued in the first half of the 2025/26 season. Former CD Jávea coach Lauro Techeira left the club in May 2025 after three seasons at the helm and was replaced by Toni González, promoted to the top job after working with the club’s youth teams. Building for a new season focused on youth development with incoming players from other club youth sides such as FC Jove Español and CF La Nucia reshaping its roster alongside local talent.

However, with the club struggling at the wrong end of the table, second from bottom and without a win since October as well as suffering a cup defeat to UD Oliva, runaway leaders in Group 6 of the Segunda FFCV, two levels below Calpe, the club officially announced on December 9th that González had left his position as head coach and that it was in talks with former head coach Pedro Perles, who recently took CF La Nucia’a youth team into the Liga Nacional, to take over and guide the Calpino side away from the drop zone.

CD Jávea and CF UD Calpe have met eight times. Their first clash came in early April 2021 during the pandemic-shortened 2020/21 season in Group 5 of the Regional Preferente, with CD Jávea winning 3-2 at home—their only victory in the series. The return fixture in Calpe, on the final day of the season, saw the home side edge a 1-0 win to secure their place in the Regional Preferente, finishing two points clear of the relegation zone, while Jávea ended third, five points short of the play-offs. In the six meetings that followed, CF UD Calpe has claimed three wins—including a league double over Jávea in 2023/24—while the other three matches have finished as draws.
