Club History

CF Independiente Alicante was founded in 2014, the club emerging as a successor to the historic Alicante CF, adopting its colours and badge. Starting out at the bottom of the ladder, the club achieved promotion at the end of the 2015/16 season as champions of Group 13, undefeated with 28 wins from 30 games, and scoring 129 goals with just 22 conceded.

After finishing third in Group 7 of the Primera Regional at the end of the 2016/17 season, scoring another 80 goals in the process, CFI Alicante finished the following campaign as champions of Group 6, winning 22 of the 30 games and scoring 90 goals, to achieve promotion to the Regional Preferente, the top tier of regional football in the Comunidad Valenciana at the time.

A second spot finish in Group 4 at the end of the Covid-reduced 2019/20 season was rewarded with a play-off spot against Torrent CF but a 1-1 home draw ended in a 4-3 loss on penalties. The following season, CFI Alicante finished as champions of Group 5 – in another Covid-reduced season – and won another chance at promotion through the play-offs but a 1-0 aggregate defeat to Athletic Club Torrellano from Group 6 stopped their progress.

In 2021, CFI Alicante faced economic challenges and entered into a collaboration agreement with CF Intercity. This partnership allowed CFI Alicante to participate in the 2021–22 Copa del Rey, where they were eliminated in the first round by Real Betis. In July 2022, the club further strengthened its ties with Intercity by becoming their reserve team for the 2022–23 season.

A sixth spot finish at the end of that season was rewarded with a place in the Lliga Comunitat FFCV, the new top tier in regional football in the Comunidad Valenciana. After a seventh spot finish at the end of the 2023/24 season, CFI Alicante finished runner-up behind champions Hércules CF “B” last season but once again failed in the play-offs, falling 3-1 on aggregate to CF Recambios Colón Catarroja.

Head to Head Record

CD Jávea and CFI Alicante have met four times since the first meeting in late November 2020 when the Alicante side took away a narrow 1-0 win at the Campo d’Esports Municipal and the two clubs drew the return fixture 1-1 in early May. CFI Alicante finished the season as champions, eight points ahead of CD Jávea in third place.

The clubs next met in the inaugural Lliga Comunitat FFCV season – 2023/24 – and CFI Alicante once again took the honours in Jávea, winning 2-0 in early October, the rojiblancos fourth defeat in the first five games of a best-forgotten season. An unexpected 4-1 win for Jávea in Alicante in late April 2024 lifted the rojiblancos out of the drop-zone for the first time in the season as a mini-revival raised hopes of survival with three games to go. However, a draw and two defeats condemned CD Jávea to bottom spot and relegation for the first time since the mid-1990s.
