CF Benidorm was founded in 2016 as CF Calvari Benidorm. The club began its journey in the Segunda Regional, achieving promotion at the end of the 2017/18 season as champions of Group 12 of the Segunda Regional, and subsequently to the Regional Preferente at the end of the following season as champions of Group 7 of the Primera Regional. In 2020, the club rebranded as Racing CF Benidorm and established affiliations with Elche CF and CF Intercity.

The club reached the Round of 16 of the Copa Comunitat Mediterrànea – La Nosta Copa during the 2022/23 season, their best performance in the regional cup competition which awards the winning club with a place in the following season’s Copa del Rey, the national cup competition. They beat CD El Campello (5-4 on pens after a 3-3 draw), CD Pedreguer (2-0) and CF UD Calpe (4-3 on penalties after a 0-0 draw) before losing by a single goal at home to Paiporta CF.

In March 2023, David Villa, the former Spanish international and World Cup winner, acquired the club through his business group, DV7 Group. This acquisition marked the beginning of a new era for the club, with Villa aiming to elevate its status and infrastructure.

In May 2023, Racing CF Benidorm and Atlético Benidorm CD merged to form the new entity, CF Benidorm, under the guidance of DV7 Group. This merger was part of a strategic plan to consolidate football in Benidorm and enhance the club’s resources and capabilities. The club finished as runaway champions of the southern group of the inaugural Lliga Comunitat FFCV and achieved promotion to promotion to the Tercera Federación, the fifth tier of the Spanish national football pyramid.

The 2024/25 season marked a challenging chapter for CF Benidorm, culminating in their relegation straight back to the Lliga Comunitat. Despite a strong start under manager Francisco Javier Vidales, the team struggled to maintain form throughout the season. By the final matchday, Benidorm found themselves in the relegation zone, needing a win to secure survival. They achieved a 1–0 victory over play-off contenders La Nucía; however, Athletic Torrellano’s home win over Atlético Saguntino condemned CF Benidorm to the drop.

We’ve Met Before

CD Jávea and CF Benidorm (in its current form) have met just twice before, during the inaugural season of the Lliga Comunitat FFCV. The first meeting, played in Villajoyosa in early December due to renovation work at the stadium in Benidorm, saw the league leaders crush CD Jávea by seven goals to nothing, the worst defeat for the rojiblancos for over 40 years. Jávea got the necessary ‘revenge’ in the return fixture at the end of April, defeating the champions-elect 3-2 and putting the visitors’ celebrations on temporary hold, an incredible second-half performance which saw the rojiblancos score three times in the first 15 minutes before Benidorm rallied, scored twice and then pushed for an equaliser before the referee brought the amazing encounter to an end.
