From July 31st to August 2nd, the Playa del Arenal will host the 1st Xàbia Beach Football Tournament. This is a new sporting initiative promoted by the Xàbia Council with the aim of revitalizing the coastline during the summer months and reviving a tradition that, years ago, formed part of the local sporting scene.

The event is organized by Vicente José Ortolà, who explained that the idea stems from the memory of the old championships held on the beach and the desire to raise awareness of a sport that is not yet well established in the Marina Alta. “We want to make beach football a regular event in Xàbia again, as it already is in other coastal municipalities,” Ortolà stated.

The tournament will feature 16 teams, divided into four groups of four. A group stage will be played on Thursday and Friday, and on Saturday morning, the group matches will be completed before the knockout phase begins, which will include the semifinals, final, and third-place match.

Regarding the game format, the group stage matches will have two halves of 12 minutes each; the semi-finals onward, matches will follow the official beach football format of three 10-minute halves. Matches will be played in the evening from 7.00pm to midnight, on a single pitch located on Playa del Arenal.

The champions will win 700 euros and access to the VIP area of the Social Club; the runners-up with receive 400 euros and 10 tickets for all team members to the Social Club; the third-placed team will win 200 euros.

Registration costs 175 euros per team and includes insurance for all players, refreshments, and a gift provided by the sponsors. The minimum age to participate is 16 year which will ensure a balanced competition. Registration can be completed through the tournament’s Instagram profile here or by calling 649 079 743.

In addition, there will be a bar service during the tournament to offer drinks and refreshments to the public, enhancing the beachfront atmosphere.

The councillor responsible for Sports, Toni Molina (PP), congratulated the organizers for the initiative and encouraged residents to actively participate and support this new sporting event, which combines leisure, sports, and a summer atmosphere in one of the municipality’s most iconic venues.
