Arts Society Marina Alta presents The Adoration of the Magi: From Catacombs to Christmas Cards
Centuries of artists have been provided with a chance to add a dash of exotic colour into their scenes of the birth of Christ. A fascinating presentation about the history of the Three Wise Men.
The Arts Society Marina Alta are absolutely delighted to announce details of their next lecture ‘The Adoration of the Magi: From Catacombs to Christmas Cards’. They’ve adorned our Seasons Greetings and taken pride of place in our cribs and school nativity scenes. Centuries of artists have been provided with a chance to add a dash of exotic colour into their scenes of the birth of Christ.
Narrated by the esteemed Dr. Geri Parlby, this lecture traces the fascinating journey of the Magi through centuries of Christian art and storytelling. From their earliest depictions in 3rd-century catacombs to their familiar presence on modern Christmas cards, nativity scenes, and school plays, the Magi have long inspired artists and enchanted audiences. Discover how these mysterious figures evolved—from humble visitors to regal kings adorned in exotic splendour and uncover the legend that connects them to the very first Christian artist.
The lectures will take place on Wednesday 3rd December 2025 at the Espai la Senieta in Moraira at 11.00am (doors open at 10.15am) and at the Casa de Cultura in Plaça del Baix in the heart of the historic centre of Xàbia at 7.30pm (doors open at 6.45pm).
Both lectures are priced at 15 euros for guests (prepaid donation) but are free for members of The Arts Society and seats can be booked in advance by contacting the Arts Society by email at marinaalta@theartssociety.org or online here.
