Alicante Tenders Construction of New Roundabout at Camí Cansalades Black Spot
€587,000 project aims to improve safety and traffic flow at busy junction between Benitatxell and Xàbia.
The Diputación de Alicante has put out to tender the construction of a new roundabout at the well known accident black spot on Camí Cansalades, at the junction of the CV 740 and CV 747 between El Poble Nou de Benitatxell and Xàbia. The project carries a budget of €587,016.48 including VAT, with works expected to take six months from the start date.
The roundabout has long been a local demand due to the risks posed by the intersection, which experiences heavy traffic and has a history of accidents. The junction between the CV 740, linking Benitatxell and Xàbia, and the Cansalades area has become particularly problematic for nearby residents and for drivers accessing surrounding rural districts.
According to the technical report, the intervention is justified “on road safety grounds and to improve traffic functionality.” The roundabout is expected to streamline entry and exit movements while reducing vehicle speeds. The project includes widening the roadway along the affected stretch to create a multi exit roundabout serving not only the two main roads but also nearby access lanes, thereby improving overall connectivity in the area. To make the expansion possible, the Provincial Council has initiated the necessary expropriation procedures to widen the roads.

Key works will include earthworks and demolitions, road surface preparation and paving, connection to the drinking water network, drainage installation, public lighting, landscaping, as well as road markings, signage, safety beacons, and temporary traffic diversions during construction.
The works will be carried out in two phases within the six month timeframe in order to minimize disruption. Partial road closures, particularly on Camí del Pouet and the CV 747, are expected during the second phase.
The Provincial Council first earmarked funding for the project in 2022, with initial plans to begin in 2024. Two years later, the authority has now moved forward, responding to long standing calls from residents to improve safety and traffic flow in a key area for daily mobility.
