Semana Santa in Xàbia 2026: Processions, Liturgies and Devotions
From the transfer of the Recumbent Christ to Easter Sunday celebrations, a full schedule of religious events brings together worshippers and residents.
As Semana Santa approaches, Xàbia is preparing for a series of deeply rooted religious traditions that blend solemn devotion with communal participation. From processions through historic streets to liturgical celebrations in churches and convents, the programme offers a rich calendar of events that reflect both faith and heritage, drawing residents and visitors alike.
Transfer of the Recumbent Christ (Cristo Yacente)
As part of the lead-up to Semana Santa, on Friday 27th March at 8.00pm, the transfer of the Recumbent Christ will take place from the Convent Church to the Parish Church of San Bartolomé. This is one of the most well-attended events each year, drawing both the faithful and local residents.
Devotions to Our Lady of Solitude (Mare de Déu de la Soletat)
After a special mass at the Convent Church last week, the image of Our Lady of Solitude, the Via Matris will take place on Passion Saturday (el sábado de Pasión) – March 28th – at 7.30am. The procession will depart from the Convent Church of the Augustinian Sisters and pass through various streets and chapels in the historic centre before concluding at the Church of Sant Bertomeu.

Holy Week (Semana Santa) Programme
The main Semana Santa programme will run from March 29th to April 5th. On Palm Sunday (el Domingo de Ramas), Mass will be celebrated at the Convent church at 9.00am, followed by the blessing of palms at 11.30am. There will also be a service at the Monastery at 10.00 am, and Masses at the parish church of San Bartolomé at 12.00 noon and 7.00pm.
On Holy Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, morning services will be held at the Convent church at 8.00am, with evening Mass at 7.00pm. Confessions will also be available on Monday and Tuesday from 10.00am to 12.00 noon and from 5.00pm to 7.00pm.
Holy Thursday (el Jueves Santo) and Good Friday (el Viernes Santo)
On Holy Thursday, services are scheduled at the Convent church and the church of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles on La Plana at 5.00pm, at the parish church of San Bartolomé at 6.00pm, and at 7.00pm the Mass of the Lord’s Supper (Santa Misa en la Cena del Señor) will be celebrated, including the washing of the feet. The day will conclude with the Holy Hour at 10:00 p.m.
Good Friday will begin with the Stations of the Cross (Vía Crucis) at 7.00am. Services will take place at 4.00pm in the Convent church, at 5.00pm in the church of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles on La Plana, and at 5.30pm in the parish church of San Bartolomé. In the evening, at 7.30 pm, the Sermon and Procession will be held.

Easter Vigil (Vigilia Pascual) and Easter Sunday (Domingo de Resurrección)
On Holy Saturday (el Sábado Santo), the Easter Vigil will be celebrated at the church of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles on La Plana at 8.00pm, followed by the Vigil at the parish church of San Bartolomé at 10.00pm, after which the Procession of the Holy Encounter (el Procesión del Santo Encuentro) will take place.
On Easter Sunday, Mass will be held at the Convent church at 9.00am, at the parish church of San Bartolomé and the church of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles at 10.00am, and additional services will be celebrated at the parish church at 12.00 noon and 7.00pm.
