Swing by the Sea: Art, Craft and Rhythm in Jávea’s Port
Handmade treasures, harbour views and a Sunday morning of Lindy Hop on the promenade.
On weekends, the port of Jávea comes alive. Visitors stroll along the seafront promenade, soaking up wide-open views of the harbour and mountains, pausing to admire the striking port church of Mare de Déu de Loreto, its modern silhouette shaped like a ship ready to sail. Others settle onto sunlit terraces by the water, where coffee tastes better with a sea breeze.
Every Saturday and Sunday morning, the promenade hosts a charming art and craft market. And on Sunday, 13th March, there is an extra flourish: authentic swing dancing by the sea.
If you think all beach markets blur into one, the one at Jávea’s port will change your mind. The artisans’ association AMATA carefully selects each participant, and the difference is clear. Every piece on display is handmade by the very person behind the stall. These are creators who have chosen the slow alchemy of craft over the rush of mass production. They are generous with their stories, happy to explain their techniques, and proud to share the spark behind their work.

There is always gentle background music drifting between the stalls, but on Sunday 13th March, the rhythm steps into the spotlight. The dance school Lindy Hop La Marina will offer a free swing class at the end of Avenida Jaime I, right in front of the fair, from 11.30am to 12.30pm. Expect Lindy Hop, Boogie Woogie, Jazz, Balboa and classic swing, with teachers who know how to turn a sunny morning into a dance floor. And if the mood carries on, they just might too.
The market stalls are open every Saturday and Sunday from 11.00am until 4.00pm or later. The fair takes place along the seafront promenade of Jávea port. For updates, including any weather-related changes, visit the official website of Pueblo Artesano, where you can also preview the stalls expected each weekend.
Come for the views, stay for the craft, and if you feel the rhythm tapping at your shoes, follow it.
