Representatives of the Generalitat Valenciana have visited the Puerto Deportivo Nou Fontana de Xàbia to learn more about the project for the comprehensive upgrade of its facilities. The initiative, promoted by the regional government as part of its public–private partnership strategy, involves an investment of 2.16 million euros.

During the visit, Vicente Martínez Mus, Deputy Vice President of the Generalitat and Regional Minister for Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery, explained that the project “reaffirms our firm commitment to regionally owned ports as strategic spaces for nautical, economic and social activity, while moving towards safer and more accessible models”. He added that the planned works in Xàbia “will make it possible to renew the facilities, optimise port services and strengthen the relationship between the marina and its surroundings”.

He also placed this intervention “within the broader set of improvements being carried out by the Generalitat in Xàbia, across the region and throughout the Comunidad Valenciana, helping to consolidate a network of regional ports adapted to today’s needs and open to the public”.

Also attending the presentation were Xàbia’s Mayor, Rosa Cardona; the Regional Secretary for Infrastructure and Transport, Francisco Javier Sendra; and the Director General for Coasts, Ports and Airports, Marc García Manzana.

For her part, the mayor expressed great satisfaction with what she described as a “highly innovative investment that will use new materials capable of guaranteeing durability of up to 500 years. This shows that the works being undertaken will further enhance the already high construction standards in place”. She also emphasised that environmental protection had been treated as a fundamental priority, ensuring that all actions comply with current regulations and represent a necessary renewal.

Among the main improvements planned are the installation of photovoltaic solar energy systems, the complete renewal of electricity and water networks, upgraded LED lighting and signalling, enhanced fire protection systems, updated digital services and connectivity, and the introduction of desalination systems for washing vessels.

The project also includes urban development and environmental improvements in the surrounding area, such as new paving, landscaped areas with efficient irrigation, the installation of urban furniture, new pedestrian access points, renewed signage and improved accessibility. These measures aim to strengthen the marina’s connection with the town and encourage public use of the space.

In addition, the plans provide for the complete refurbishment of the pontoons, the reorganisation of moorings to accommodate larger vessels, and the upgrading of quays and technical areas. Protective works are also planned, including the replacement of breakwater rocks and dredging of the harbour entrance, which will improve operational conditions and safety.

The marina renewal project has an execution period of 15 months and a 15-year concession. Works began at the end of last year and will be carried out in two phases: the first phase, focused on interventions within the marina itself, will run until May, while the second phase, affecting the breakwater, will begin after the summer, ensuring that no major works take place during the peak season.
