The Moors and Christians of Xàbia open the Mid-Year celebrations to the public
On Friday, February 6th, the Proclamation of the Moorish and Christian Standard Bearers and the Presentation of the 2026 Captaincy will take place.
It is a revived tradition. The Moors & Christians in Xàbia will once again bring their Mig Any celebrations fully back to the streets of Duanes de la Mar over the weekend of 6th and 7th February. After several years in which the main, more formal events and the subsequent festivities were held indoors at the Salones Carrasco, the Fiesta Committee is renewing and expanding what marks the official starting point of a new fiesta year, with a clear aim of openness and an invitation for broad public participation.
With the goal of sharing the spirit of the fiesta beyond the Filaes themselves, the Committee has stressed that this year’s Mig Any is not just an internal gathering, but an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to discover and enjoy the fiesta in a friendly, popular atmosphere. It adds that both those who are actively involved in the fiestas and those experiencing them for the first time are invited to join in and be part of the brotherhood of our great festive family. This initiative is supported by the Department of Fiestas in Xàbia.

The main hub of the celebrations will be a large marquee installed on Avenida Lepanto. Much of the programme will take place there on the night of Friday 6th and throughout Saturday 7th, with the exception of the informal entraetas, which will fill the streets of the seafaring quarter on both days. The space, specially prepared for the occasion, will host the main events for members of the Filaes and the general public.
This year, the proclamation of the Moorish Standard Bearer, Aroa Sánchez Lora, and the Christian Standard Bearer, José Antonio Buigues Llidó, along with the presentation of the Al-Tarik’s Captaincy for 2026, will take place on the evening of Friday 6th. This allows the Mig Any celebrations to be presided over by their leading representatives from virtually the very start of the weekend.

The Mig Any celebration will combine the most emblematic elements of this Moros i Cristians tradition with parades, shared meals, plenty of music and entertainment for all audiences.
The programme is as follows:
