Mutxamel CF was established in the late 1960s, initially competing in regional football under the jurisdiction of the Murcian Football Federation (FFRM). In 1976, as part of a wider reorganization that saw several clubs from central and southern Alicante move to the Valencian Football Federation (FFCV), the club transitioned to Valencian football.

At the end of the 1977/78 season, Mutxamel CF topped the southern group of the Primera Regional by a single point over UD Oliva, earning promotion to the Regional Preferente, the region’s top tier, for the first time. Three seasons later, the club finished level on points with Motilla CF but was relegated back to the Primera Regional due to a worse head-to-head record.

Mutxamel CF bounced back at the end of the 1982/83 season, winning the southern group of the Primera Regional by nine points ahead of CD Jávea and securing promotion to the Regional Preferente. Following a reorganization in 1984, the club spent seven seasons in the top tier, maintaining mid-table consistency until relegation in the 1989/90 season, finishing bottom of a group won by CD Jávea.

The disappointment was short-lived. Mutxamel CF achieved back-to-back promotions, winning Group 5 of the Regional Primera in 1990/91 and then the southern group of the Regional Preferente in 1991/92, reaching the Tercera División—then the fourth tier of Spanish football—for the first time.

A 10th-place finish in Group 6 in 1993/94 marked the club’s highest ever position in Spanish football, a brief golden period before successive relegations returned the team to regional football by the late 1990s.
In 2008/09, the club won the Primera Regional, returning to the Regional Preferente. The following season, Mutxamel CF nearly achieved another consecutive promotion, finishing third in Group 4 and qualifying for the play-offs. However, a 2–2 aggregate draw against CD Buñol saw the latter advance on the away goals rule. The club then suffered relegation the next season.

Mutxamel CF claimed its sixth championship in 2012/13, winning Group 7 of the Primera Regional and earning promotion. However, the return to the Regional Preferente was short-lived, with the club finishing second-from-bottom the following season and returning to the Primera Regional.

Between 2014 and 2025, Mutxamel CF largely played as a mid-table side in the Primera Regional. The club narrowly avoided relegation to the third tier for the first time during the Covid-reduced 2020–21 season, surviving after finishing fifth in a post-season play-off group.

In 2022/23, Mutxamel CF finished third in Group 7 of the Primera Regional, qualifying for the newly-created Primera FFCV, effectively remaining in the second tier. That same season, the club reached the Round of 32 of the Copa Comunitat Mediterrànea – La Nostra Copa, their best performance in the regional cup, defeating CF Atlético Jonense, Atlético Benidorm CD, Santa Pola CF, and Villajoyosa CF before losing at home to Novelda CF.

A 10th-place finish in 2023/24 was followed by a successful 2024/25 campaign, with the club competing in a three-way battle for the championship of Group 4 alongside CD Jávea and Santa Pola CF. Mutxamel CF finished as runners-up but secured promotion through the play-offs, defeating UD Aldaia CF 1–0 on aggregate, joining champions CD Jávea in the Lliga Comunitat for the 2025/26 season. This marks the first time Mutxamel CF will play in the top tier of Valencian football since 2014.

CD Jávea and Mutxamel CF have met 40 times since the first meetings during the 1976/77 season when Mutxamel completed the ‘double’ over CD Jávea, winning 1-0 in mid-January 1977 in Xàbia and crushing the rojiblancos 6-1 in the return fixture in mid-June 1977, the club’s sixth heaviest defeat in its history.

Whilst home form has been very productive for CD Jávea with 14 wins from 20 games and just two defeats, the short journey down the motorway to the outskirts of Alicante was initially less successful. It took seven attempts to claim a single point in Mutxamel and the rojiblancos lost ten games in 14 matches between 1977 and 2001 before enjoying an undefeated run of six games which is still open, CD Jávea having won the last three encounters.
