Xàbia and Regional Government step up forest work to reduce wildfire risk
Coordinated crews remove drought-damaged pines and improve natural areas across the municipality.
Xàbia Council, together with the Generalitat Valenciana, is carrying out forestry work in various parts of the municipality with the aim of reducing wildfire risk and improving the condition of the natural environment. The actions include the removal of dead pine trees, a priority measure due to the impact of drought and the deterioration of forest stands recorded in recent years.
More than five work crews – over twenty workers in total – are taking part in these operations, carrying out controlled felling, pruning for tree health, and the management of plant debris in line with environmental prevention and conservation criteria.
Mayor Rosa Cardona visited the Montgó work area together with the Regional Secretary for Environment and Territory, Raúl Mérida; the Director General for the Natural and Animal Environment, Luis Gomis; and the local councillor responsible for the Environment, Juanlu Cardona (PP). During the visit, the importance of institutional cooperation in advancing preventive forest management across the municipality was highlighted.
In addition to the interventions on Montgó, the local council is undertaking similar work in other environmentally significant areas such as Granadella, the Falzia viewpoint and Cap Prim, where dead trees are also being removed to strengthen wildfire prevention and improve safety in the area.
Mayor Rosa Cardona noted that “these actions reflect a firm commitment to protecting our territory and acting preventively in the face of wildfire risk. Active management is essential for conserving Xàbia’s green spaces and ensuring the safety of residents and visitors.”
