The current incarnation of L’Olleria CF was founded in 1983, following two earlier attempts to establish a football team in the town, dating back to the 1920s and 1940s. While those earlier clubs struggled and eventually folded, the 1983 foundation marked a more stable and lasting commitment to football in L’Olleria.

Starting at the very bottom of the regional football pyramid, the club quickly climbed the ranks, reaching the southern group of the Regional Preferente by 1986. Three years later, L’Olleria CF achieved promotion to the Tercera División, then the fourth tier of Spanish football. A 7th-place finish in Group 6/2 at the end of the 1989–90 season remains the club’s highest-ever league finish. However, the spell in the national divisions was brief, as the club soon plunged back into the depths of regional football.

After finishing third from bottom in the 1991–92 season, L’Olleria CF was relegated back to the Regional Preferente. The following season saw a joint bottom finish in the southern group alongside UD Altea, resulting in a second relegation. By the end of the 1993–94 season, a 17th-place finish in Group 4 of the Primera Regional completed a three-year fall from grace: just three years after competing in the national system, L’Olleria CF were back at the bottom, playing in the Segunda Regional for the first time since the club’s foundation.

The club began to rebuild and found success in 1997–98, when they were champions of Group 9. That season, L’Olleria CF won 25 of 30 matches, lost only once, and scored 119 goals, earning promotion to the Primera Regional. Momentum continued the following season, with the club crowned champions of Group 6 and promoted back to the Regional Preferente.

However, this resurgence proved short-lived. Just two seasons later, L’Olleria CF was relegated back to the Primera Regional, and by 2005 the club was once again in the Segunda Regional. Over the next 13 seasons, the team alternated between the Segunda and Primera Regional. A runners-up finish in Group 5 of the Primera Regional in 2017–18 set up a play-off against Godella CF, which L’Olleria CF won 5–4 on aggregate, securing a return to the Regional Preferente.

Since then, L’Olleria CF has remained at the top level of regional football in the Comunidad Valenciana. A second-place finish in Group 3 of the Regional Preferente in 2022–23 earned the club a play-off for promotion back to the Tercera División, but a 4–1 aggregate defeat to CD Burriana ended the dream. That same season, the team reached the quarter-finals of the Copa Comunitat Mediterrànea – La Nostra Copa, defeating UD Montaverner, Muro CF, Moixent CF, and CF Cullera, before being eliminated by eventual winners CD Soneja.

Finishing second in the Regional Preferente also meant that L’Olleria CF became one of the founding clubs of the newly-formed Lliga Comunitat FFCV, finishing 12th in the 2023–24 season and improving slightly to 11th the following season.

We’ve Met Before

CD Jávea and L’Olleria CF have met 24 times since the first meeting in early October 1985, a game in which the rojiblancos ran out 5-0 winners and recorded a fifth successive victory. The return fixture, in mid-February 1986, resulted in a narrow 1-0 win for L’Olleria CF. The clubs would end the season claiming the top two spots: CD Jávea as champions with 25 wins from 38 games, scoring 98 goals, whilst L’Olleria CF claimed 24 wins and scored 92. The goal ratio of 2.6 goals per game remains CD Jávea’s joint best ratio, alongside the promotion winning season of 1965/66.

Whilst CD Jávea remain undefeated at home, their fortunes have not been so good in L’Olleria where they have won just twice in 12 games – a 2-1 win in the 2019/20 season and a 1-0 win during the 2021/22 season.
