After several years on pause, Xàbia is bringing back its Jornadas de la Salud (Health Days), a community initiative led by Cruz Roja Xàbia in collaboration with the town’s departments of Social Services and Health. The goal: to raise awareness about the importance of taking care of oneself; body, mind, and spirit.

The event will run from October 22nd to 24th in the Sala Polivalente at Portal del Clot, featuring talks, workshops, and activities for both students and the general public.

The councillor for Health and Social Services, Raquel Violero (PP), emphasized that restarting these sessions “is a very necessary step, because health isn’t just about diet or exercise, it’s also emotional wellbeing, social connections, and how we relate to our environment.” She also praised the “teamwork between local government, professionals, and community organizations” that makes the initiative possible.

Alejandro Pedrós, head of health services at Cruz Roja Xàbia, noted that this year’s programme introduces new topics such as unwanted loneliness and addictions, issues affecting people of all ages. Over three days, various stands will offer information and hands-on workshops on road safety, healthy eating, sexual health, mental health, and addiction prevention, with support from local associations and municipal departments.

The Wednesday and Thursday afternoons will feature open talks for the public on caring for the elderly, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, mental health, and even intimacy and sexuality in adulthood.

Violero and Pedrós both thanked the many participating organizations, including SASEM, UPCCA, TAPIS, IES La Mar, AMJASA, Xàbia Històrica, Grup de Danses Portitxol, and several town hall departments, for helping coordinate such a comprehensive program.

“Working for health means working with and for people,” Violero concluded, inviting everyone to take part in the sessions and “be part of this space for prevention and shared learning.”
