CD Olímpic was founded on September 10th 1932, and played its first official match a month later, beating Cullera 1-0. After the Civil War, the club rose to the Tercera División but financial struggles forced it back into regional football in the early 1950s. Promotion followed in 1956, and through the late ’50s and ’60s Olímpic were a strong force, winning their group three times but always falling short in the promotion play-offs.

Relegations and promotions became a theme. The club bounced between regional football, Tercera, and the newly created Segunda B, even reaching a best-ever 4th place under future Real Madrid coach Benito Floro in 1987–88. But inconsistency returned, with more drops into the regional leagues and repeated playoff heartbreak.

One of the high points came in 2013–14 when Olímpic held Real Madrid to a famous 0-0 draw at La Murta in the Copa del Rey before bowing out in the return leg at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu two weeks later; Real would go on to win the cup, beating archrivals FC Barcelona in the final..

Ownership changed in 2018 when Indian company Sudeva Sports International took control, aiming to use the club as a pathway for Indian talent. But financial troubles soon followed: unpaid wages, debts, and even fans stepping in to cover travel costs. By 2023, liabilities had piled up to over €650,000, though these were eventually cleared by 2025.

On the pitch, Olímpic has remained competitive in the new Lliga Comunitat, finishing third in its inaugural season but slipping to sixth last year.

Getting There

The Campo Municipal de la Murta is about 75 minutes’ drive from Xàbia. Take the AP-7 north towards Valencia and continue to junction 588, signposted OLIVA (Nord/Norte). After passing through the old toll booth area, take the first right and pass through the orange groves. At the next junction, turn right to join the CV-638 and continue towards La Font d’En Carròs. Pass around the town following signs to BENIFLÁ joining the CV-683 and then join the CV-680 towards POTRÍES / VILLALONGA and at the next roundabout, take the second exit to join the CV-60 towards RÒTOVA / L’OLLERIA. Continue for almost 14 kilometres to junction 23 and join the CV-610 to XÀTIVA. On entering the city, take the second exit at the roundabout towards XÀTIVA centre ciutat and after 450m, at the next roundabout with the modern bull arena, take the second exit and follow the road around to the left. After about 350m, turn right into Avenida de la Murta for the football stadium.

We’ve Met Before

CD Jávea and CD Olímpic have met competitively 20 times since their first meeting in November 1966 in the Tercera División – then the third tier in the Spanish football pyramid – when the Xàtiva side ran out 3-0 winners at La Murta; CD Jávea won 4-0 in the return fixture in mid-March 1967.

CD Jávea have won six of the ten meetings at home, including a memorable 4-3 win at the end of March 2009, one of the best performances by the home side to have been played at the Campo d’Esports in recent years. The rojiblancos have won just once in Xàtiva, a narrow 1-0 win just before Christmas in 1991, a victory that lifted the club into third place in the Tercera División.
