Xàbia kicked off ten days of festivities on Friday evening with the presentation of the 2025 edition of the Mare de Déu de Loreto celebrations – better known as the port fiesta.
The float parade once again thrilled locals and visitors, drawing huge crowds that lined the streets of Duanes de la Mar. Bursting with colour, music, and laughter, it was one of the standout highlights of the Virgin of Loreto festivities over the weekend.
The procession kicked off with beloved cartoon characters, bringing joy to the youngest spectators. Traditional peñas followed, showcasing their usual wit and offering humorous commentary on local issues, from the Primer Montañar project and the municipal swimming pool to the lack of safety buoys and the town’s lively afternoon gatherings. Other groups entertained with thematic performances, including mock Imserso trips and sports scenes, winning applause and laughter from the crowd.
Trailing behind were the children, their excitement infectious as they paraded through streets packed with hundreds of families. Showers of confetti and sweets added a festive, playful touch. Representatives from Xàbia’s various festival committees also participated, though the quintos’ float – usually a highlight from Les Fogueres de Sant Joan – missed the parade due to a scheduling error. Undeterred, they joined in on foot, distributing candy and confetti.
The grand finale was delivered by the members of the Loreto Fiesta Committee, with the mayoralesas perched atop an impressive, colourful float, bringing the lively procession to a spectacular close.
