Officers from the Policía Local de Xàbia joined together with other forces to be honoured in the Charity Shields Grand Gala which was held over the weekend in the Vichy Catalan Spa in Caldes de Malavella.

The event served to thank the 50 people who have been most involved in this campaign to support the fight against cancer in children and to celebrate the fact that they have together raised some 500,000 euros for research and family support.

In Xàbia, officers Mariano Armero, Rosa Ramos and Vicen Buigues, as well as chief superintendent José Antonio Monfort, received the Creu d’Honor Pels Valents decoration in recognition of their altruistic work and their enthusiasm for a campaign that will serve to make the Pediatric Cancer Centre at the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu a reality, becoming the largest children’s Oncology Hospital in Europe.

The charity shield campaign was launched in 2017 by the local police in Caldes de Malavella, Sant Celoni and Hostalric and it slowly spread across Spain. In Xàbia, it has been active since 2019 and many businesses and association have contributed to the sale of the special charity shields, which can also be purchased from the local police station, raising some 7,000 euros so far.
