This Sunday 27th February, the 33rd edition of the Volta a Peu a Xàbia – Memorial José Albi road race will be taking place, a hugely popular sporting event that attracts more than a thousand runners to test themselves on a 10 kilometre long circular route along the coastal stretch of the town, a route that will logically affect traffic circulation in the immediate vicinity.

The start and finish of the race is outside the Palau Municipal d’Esports and the Policía Local de Xàbia has advised that the area around the sports centre – specifically, Avinguda dels Furs, Calle José Manuel Bordes Valls, Avinguda Ausiàs March, Calle Botànic Cavallines, Calle Joan Fuster and Calle Vicent Andrés Estellés – must be free of parked vehicles from midnight on Saturday 26th February.

On the morning of Sunday 27th, the roads around the sports centre will be closed to traffic from 7.00am, except for residents living in the area and emergency vehicles.

From 9.00am Sunday, the Avenida del Mediterráneo (Primer Montañar) will be closed between the Triana bridge and the Arenal as well as the Avenida de la Libertad and the Avenida Augusta stretch from the roundabout next to IES La Mar to the bridge that crosses the river.

From 9.30am, the Avenida Ultramar (Segundo Montañar) will be closed from the Arenal to La Caleta as well as Calle Esparta which runs down from XIC towards the coast.

The roads are expected to remain closed for approximately two hours and will be re-opened when the situation allows it. The Policía Local appreciates the understanding of the local residents and asks for maximum citizen collaboration so this popular and long-standing competition, celebrating its 33rd edition, can be held as normally as possible.
