The Public Library of Xàbia has created a space dedicated to Women and Feminism in both the historic centre and port libraries. The department’s staff has carried out an exhaustive selection of the books that were available in storage as well as those that were available in the different subject sections. The collection has also been completed with the latest news. All the works have been grouped in their own section so that they are within reach and easier to find.

The books in the library cover various topics related to women, such as health, work, workplace harassment, gender violence, empowerment, history, culture, art and the biographies of brave women, many options to raise awareness and spread knowledge.

The library has unveiled this space in March, linked to the feminist struggle. A PDF brochure has also been prepared showing a selection of the news that can be loaned in the libraries and a specific one that compiles all the books on the subject available in the two libraries. The two electronic resources are available on the public library page of the Xàbia Council website.

Councillor Quico Moragues (Culture) and Councilor Montse Villaverde (Equality) have presented this resource and a special showcase that has also been prepared at the headquarters in Calle Mayor and in which you can find first editions of Valencian writers such as Maria Ibars, Maria Beneyto and Matilde Llòria from the 1950s and 1960s, as well as books from the same period that show the vision they wanted of women since the dictatorship.

Also within the framework of the commemorative events of Women’s Day, the Department of Sports has activated the campaign “Dona i Esport“, which, under the slogan “Volem, podem i Som Imparables“, gives visibility to women in the world of sport . The campaign posters can be seen in the advertising billboards of the municipality.

In addition, within the Equality programming, a talk has been included about women in the sports world entitled “Rompiendo Barreras” which will take place online on Friday 12th March.

This year’s programme of events to mark International Women’s Day, adapted to the health situation, includes an institutional act and reading of a manifesto on Monday 8th March, International Women’s Day, a children’s storyteller (on Sunday 14th March at 12 noon in the Riurau d ‘Arnauda) and a monologue theatre that combines humor and activism on Saturday 27th March at 7.30pm in the multipurpose room at Portal del Clot.

In addition, the Department of Equality, led by Montse Villaverde, encourages all women to participate in the alternative Cursa de la Dona (uploading photos on social networks with the tag #CursaDeLaDonaXabia) and to participate in the tik tok contest that they have active:
