The Xabiero author, José Manuel Mata Muñoz, has been named among the ten finalists for the 2022 edition of the prestigious Planeta de Novela award. Mata has been nominated for the prize – for the winner is awarded one million euros whilst 200,000 euros is available to the runner-up – with his work “El avionazo, una historia de Frida y Marilyn”. He has reached the final ten from a selection of 846 works.

In this novel, the xabiero writes of a space-time line, without going into science fiction, in which Frida Kahlo and Marilyn Monroe “have a common link: El Avionazo, a painting by Frida that has disappeared for posterity.” To do this, he puts himself in the shoes of these two women and gives a new approach to their lives so far “beyond biography, entering the subjective and sensual, thus humanizing these two great figures already inserted forever in the universal ideology”.

A jury made up of José Manuel Blecua, Fernando Delgado, Juan Eslava Galán, Pere Gimferrer, Carmen Posadas, Rosa Regàs and Belén López, secretary with vote, will decide which is the best novel, in a prize that will be announced on October 15th during a literary dinner at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya.

The other nine finalists are: Álex Oneida ·“Plumas y Arena”; Fernando Preto Rodríguez · “La niña del castillo de los almendros en flor”; Ho Hanan · “Magdalena, la mirada del corazón”; Gabriela Hausmann · “El amante de mi mujer”; Alma Browncross · “A más de siete mil kilómetros”; Manuel Millán Sánchez · “La ciudad de las ilusiones”; Hoja de Fresno · “Río arriba”;, de (seudónimo); Iñaki Carrera · “Las debilidades del Führer.
