Xàbia and Levante UD Foundation get together to promote adapted sport

The Department of Sports in Xàbia and the Fundación Cent Anys Levante UD have presented details of a special open day for adapted sports that will be taking place next Saturday 17th July at the Campo d’Esports Municipal in Freginal. The day will serve to enjoy and promote adapted sport and its strength as a tool for social transformation and personal evolution.

Councillor Alberto Tur (Sports) explained that the open day will begin at 7.00pm with a presentation by location athlete Pablo Ivars, who is part of the Spanish national side for cycling adapted for the deaf, and he will talk about his experiences, the benefits that sport has brought him and the importance of not setting limits.

This will be followed by an exhibition game by the Levante UD Masclets, the first electric wheelchair hockey team in the Comunidad Valenciana under the sponsorship of the Fundación Levante.

To close the day, there will be some participatory training offered by the Levante UD School for People with Intellectual Disabilities and those who want to take part can register for free at the Sporttia website here.

The event will be open to the public who will be allowed to enter freely until the capacity of the complex is complete.

The sports councillor thanked to Fundación Levante for the great work that it is doing to make sport accessible for all, an objective shared by the local council who will soon be opening the Supera’t, a new municipal sports school for inclusive sports practice.

The foundation’s president, Vicente Furió, expressed his satisfaction for having found a perfect collaborator in Xàbia Council to meet the challenge of achieving inclusion through sport, especially since the municipality has expressed its commitment to pay special attention to adapted sport.

Furió explained that open days such as that which will be held next Saturday serve to enjoy sport as well as raise awareness about the needt to support people who have some kind of functional diversity.

Mayor José Chulvi added that he wanted to support the initiative and thanked the foundation for considering Xàbia to help develop this special day of coexistence. He stressed that sport is a channel to help on a physical and emotion level, so it is with pride that Xàbia is taking the necessary steps to be a place where everyone can participate in it.

The presentation was also attended by Tono Maestre, a hockey player for Levante UD Masclets, who spoke about the opportunity for him and his teammates to play sports thanks to the commitement of the Fundación Levante and companies with a social commitment, such as Léleman, the main sponsor of the team.
