A local active tourism company, Xàbia Activa, has received quality seal recognition from the Generalitat’s Department of Territorial Policy, a distinction awarded to companies which work within the environment of the natural parks of the Comunidad Valenciana. In this case, the company has been awarded the Montgó Natural Park Brand seal.

As published in Levante-EMV in its Thursday edition, the seal certifies that Xàbia Activa meets and applies the criteria for sustainability and respect for the environment and, specifically, for its actions in the Montgó area.

Once a month, Xàbia Activa collaborates with the natural park to promote the values of the Cap de Sant Antoni Marine Reserve with a kayak guided tour and a representative explained that they were the first company in Xàbia to adhere to the ethical code that the Valencian Tourism Agency implemented for active tourism companies in 2017.

According to the website of the Department of Territorial Policy, three other companies have achieved the Montgo seal along with Xàbia Activa: La Sella Golf Resort Hotel, Mundo Marino, and Apartamentos Anacasa.

The criteria that must be met by these companies are:

  • Compliance with applicable sectoral legislation taking into account the nature of the product.
  • Compliance with quality requirements, which are specified in the definition of the quality standard and in the drafting of the main procedures for obtaining the product or providing the service.
  • Compliance with environmental requirements, which are based on the establishment of manuals of good environmental practices, and on the maintenance of updated records of the applicable environmental legislation, in order to become aware of “what is contaminated and how it is contaminated”, in order to to minimize impacts on the environment.

In the Natural Product sense, 100% of the raw material is required to have its origin in the area of socioeconomic influence of the Natural Park; in agri-food production, compliance with the requirements applicable to organic farming or integrated or assimilated production is required.

In the Artisan Product sense, it must be verified that the manufacturing processes have a preferably manual character, without losing the character due to the use of auxiliary tools and machinery, and originate an individualized, but not unique, product.

In Nature Tourism, the training given to activities of accommodation, restoration, active tourism and environmental education and interpretation of heritage, respectively, is valued to improve information, knowledge, and involvement with the Natural Space in the realization of their activities, and consequently improve the tourist offer, as well as promote the consumption of local products certified with the Brand.
