VIRUS UPDATE: Outbreak detected in Xàbia, social in origin, affecting 5 people

The national 14-day IA rate is rising at an accelerating pace and rises in all but six autonomous regions as health minister suggests the ‘fourth wave’ has begun.

This is the latest information on the status of the health situation in Xàbia, the Marina Alta, the Comunidad Valenciana and across Spain.

Xàbia

Xàbia has seen 6 new positive cases detected by PCR test reported since the last update on Tuesday 23rd, taking the total to 1,430 positive cases detected in Xàbia since the pandemic began. There has been no new deaths, the total remains at 12.

Marina Alta

The Dénia Health Authority, which covers the Marina Alta region, has recorded 13 new infections detected by PCR test since the last update, bringing the total to 9,697 positive cases since the crisis began.

The new infections have been reported in the following municipalities:

  • Xàbia – 6
  • El Vergel – 3
  • Calp – 2
  • Dénia – 1
  • Pedreguer – 1

There has been 1 new death since the last update (in Benissa) and the total is now 192 since the crisis began.

Comunidad Valenciana

As of 25/03/2021, 86 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed through PCR or antigen tests since the last update:

  • Provincia de Castellón: 11 (-28 on previous update)
  • Provincia de València: 54 (-104)
  • Provincia de Alicante: 21 (-54)

In total, 384,689 positive cases have been recorded in the Comunidad Valenciana. There is currently 2 unassigned cases.

Outbreaks

There have been a total of new outbreaks of the disease across the Comunidad Valenciana:

  • Provincia de Castellón: 1
  • Provincia de València: 7
  • Provincia de Alicante: 1 (Xàbia)

The origins of these new outbreaks can be assigned as follows:

  • 33% Work
  • 0% Education

Active Cases

The data shows that there are currently 3,276 active cases of COVID-19 in the Comunidad Valenciana, with represents 0.83% of the total number of positives cases recorded.

Deaths

There have been 18 deaths from COVID-19, bringing the total for the Comunidad Valenciana to 7,107 people.

  • Provincia de Castellón: 777 (+1 since the last update)
  • Provincia de València: 3,632 (+9)
  • Provincia de Alicante: 2,698 (+8)

Hospitalization

There are 472 people currently in hospitals across the Comunidad Valenciana who are being treated for the COVID-19 infection (changes since last update):

  • Provincia de Castellón: 35 (+6) with 3 patients in ICU (+1)
  • Provincia de València: 223 (-3) with 58 patients in ICU (-5)
  • Provincia de Alicante: 214 (-5) with 48 patients in ICU (-1)

Recoveries

201 new recoveries from COVID-19 have been registered; in total, 385,769 people in the Comunidad Valenciana have overcome the disease since the pandemic began.

Vaccination

616,700 doses of the vaccination have been administered throughout the Comunidad Valenciana. A total of 228,859 people have completed the vaccination programme in our region.

Spain

As of 25/03/2021, Spain has recorded a total of 3,247,738 cases of COVID-19 infection. The 14-day IA rate1 is 134.08; the rate is 1% higher than 14 days ago. The positivity rate2 is 5.52%, a 2% rise in two weeks.

There are 7,798 people currently being treated for COVID-19 in hospital, of which 1,668 are in ICU wards. As of 25/03/2021, 6.23% of general wards and 18.62% of ICU beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients.

As of 25/03/2021, 74,420 people have lost their lives to COVID-19.

As of 25/03/2021, 6,839,736 doses of the vaccination have been administered throughout the country:

  • 5,410,715: Pfizer/BioNtech
  • 402,413: Modena
  • 1,026,608: AstraZeneca/Oxford

This total represents 80.4% of all vaccines delivered to Spain. A total of 2,393,202 people have completed the two-dose vaccination course with the three vaccines, representing 35.0% of vaccines already administered.

Data Explanation

1 The IA rate is the number of new cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 inhabitants over the past 14 days. It is considered the most accurate measure of the spread of the virus. A rate above 250 indicates an ‘Extreme Risk’ that the infection is spreading. The aim of the Spanish government is to lower this rate to 25.

2 The positivity rate refers to the percentage of all COVID-19 tests carried out which have come back positive. A high figure means that it doesn’t take many tests to come across a positive result.
