VIRUS UPDATE: 4 new positives detected in Xàbia; 13 in the Marina Alta

The IA rate for the Marina Alta drops to its lowest level since last summer.

This is the latest information on the status of the health situation in Xàbia, the Marina Alta, the Comunidad Valenciana and across Spain.

Xàbia

Xàbia has seennew positive cases detected by PCR test reported since the last update on Tuesday 16th, taking the total to 1,423 positive cases detected in Xàbia since the pandemic began. There has been no deaths since the last update, the total remains at 11.

Marina Alta

The Dénia Health Authority, which covers the Marina Alta region, has recorded 13 new infections detected by PCR test since the last update, bringing the total to 9,675 positive cases since the crisis began. The Marina Alta currently has one of the lowest rates in the Comunidad Valenciana.

The new infections have been reported in the following municipalities:

  • Calp – 5
  • Xàbia – 4
  • Beniarbeig – 1
  • Dénia – 1
  • Ondara – 1
  • Poble Nou de Benitatxell – 1

There has been 2 new deaths since the last update, in Gata de Gorgos and Pego, and the total is now 187 since the crisis began.

Comunidad Valenciana

As of 18/03/2021, 178 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed through PCR or antigen tests since the last update:

  • Provincia de Castellón: 6 (-24)
  • Provincia de València: 113 (+1)
  • Provincia de Alicante: 59 (-21)

by province, the distribution of these new cases is 6 in Castellón, 113 in Valencia, and 59 in Alicante. In total, 383,737 positive cases have been recorded in the Comunidad Valenciana. There is currently 1 unassigned case.

Outbreaks

There have been a total of new outbreaks of the disease across the Comunidad Valenciana:

  • Provincia de València: 4
  • Provincia de Alicante: 1 (San Vicente del Raspeig)

The origins of these new outbreaks can be assigned as follows:

  • 60% Work
  • 40% Social

Active Cases

The data shows that there are currently 3,813 active cases of COVID-19 in the Comunidad Valenciana, with represents 0.96% of the total number of positives cases recorded.

Deaths

There have been 13 deaths from COVID-19, bringing the total for the Comunidad Valenciana to 7,083 people.

  • Provincia de Castellón: 773 (+1)
  • Provincia de València: 3,611 (+5)
  • Provincia de Alicante: 2,653 (+7)

Hospitalization

There are 500 people currently in hospitals across the Comunidad Valenciana who are being treated for the COVID-19 infection:

  • Provincia de Castellón: 31 (-2) with 6 patients in ICU (+1)
  • Provincia de València: 234 (-27) with 77 patients in ICU (-3)
  • Provincia de Alicante: 235 (-4) with 62 patients in ICU (-2)

Recoveries

352 new recoveries from COVID-19 have been registered; in total, 384,353 people in the Comunidad Valenciana have overcome the disease since the pandemic began.

Vaccination

545,125 (+25,173) doses of the vaccination have been administered throughout the Comunidad Valenciana. A total of 178,699 (+5,905) people have completed the vaccination programme in our region.

Spain

As of 18/03/2021, Spain has recorded a total of 3,212,332 cases of COVID-19 infection. The 14-day IA rate1 is 128.17; its descent seems to have hit a plateau as the rate has risen very slightly for the past three days. The positivity rate2 has remains at 5.35%.

There are 7,841 people currently being treated for COVID-19 in hospital, of which 1,688 are in ICU wards. As of 18/03/2021, 6.27% of general wards and 19.52% of ICU beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients.

As of 18/03/2021, 72,910 people have lost their lives to COVID-19.

As of 18/03/2021, 5,993,363 doses of the vaccination have been administered throughout the country – 4,730,521 Pfizer/BioNtech, 281,719 Modena, and 981,123 AstraZeneca/Oxford – representing 78.0% of all vaccines delivered to Spain. A total of 1,886,813 people have completed the two-dose vaccination course with the three vaccines, representing 31.5% of vaccines already administered.

Data Explanation

1 The IA rate is the number of new cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 inhabitants over the past 14 days. It is considered the most accurate measure of the spread of the virus. A rate above 250 indicates an ‘Extreme Risk’ that the infection is spreading. The aim of the Spanish government is to lower this rate to 25.

2 The positivity rate refers to the percentage of all COVID-19 tests carried out which have come back positive. A high figure means that it doesn’t take many tests to come across a positive result.
