The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition at the Generalitat Valenciana has opened up the application period for financial assistance to Valencian municipalities that must undertake water supply, sanitation and flood defense works. This subsidy line, an investment of some 2.1 million euros, is part of the plan to improve the integral cycle of regional water.

The opening of the application period opened last Thursday and was published in the DOGV. It is very interesting for municipalities such as Xàbia since this aid takes on special importance after the damaging episodes of cold and storms that occurred at Easter in 2019 (and which flooded completely the core of El Arenal highlighting the lack of a facility and plan against floods) and the savage maritime storm of Gloria in January 2020 that devastated the coastline of the municipality.

Moreover, these grants (of which 4 million euros have already been granted, distributed among 113 municipalities) also aim to motivate the local councils to correct possible deficiencies that their network connection to the sewer system may have and to work on the network of irrigation canals.

The regional government points out that the objective of these subsidies “is to provide support to local local governments to programme, execute and finance works in terms of supply and sanitation of the municipalities as well as the defence of margins in urban channels to avoid flooding”.

The resolution also contemplates that municipalities can benefit from aid in the case of emergency work declared in 2021 and started after that declaration. The deadline for submitting applications is 15 business days from the day following the publication of the opening of the application period.
