The CESM CV SAE Marina Salud union has issued a statement calling for the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puig, to “keep your word and return the health department to public management” after news of the sale of shares between the two partners of the Dénia health department was made public, an agreement that would see Ribera Salud assume sole ownership of the concession.

The union has responded to the news of the agreement that has spread like wildfire throughout the region, although the sale still has to be authorised by the competition authorities. CESM said that the entire staff “is impatient” to see how the Ministry of Health “avoids this sale” and complies with Law 8/2018 which modifies the Health Law of the Comunidad Valenciana:

In order to guarantee freedom of competition and avoid dominance positions, it is necessary to establish limitations in the ostentation and, therefore, acquisition of share titles or participations of the entities holding the current management contacts of the integral health service under the concession of health departments, with the aim of protecting the interests of users, making competition more efficient and redundant in greater social protection in a basic need such as public health”.

The union has pointed out the regional government “must avoid those positions of dominance” while adding that there is “an overstretched workforce and a constant flight of professionals due to the working conditions that they have to suffer”. They also liked to think that the Ministry has not yet responded to the news “because they are on vacation”.
