Summer Music Festival returns to Xàbia with programme combining local talent and innovative sound
The festival will take place over four evenings in July in the heart of the historic centre.

Xàbia Council has presented the 39th edition of the Festival Música a l’Estiu, an already established event in the municipality’s summer cultural program. The director of the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Xàbia, Anna Bas, noted that the festival’s format was revamped last year with a change that proved to be a complete success. The training courses were a resounding success and the concerts drew over a thousand people, receiving numerous compliments from the public and professionals.
Following this trend, the festival maintains its model and focuses on three instrumental specialities, which vary each year. This year, the highlights are piano, percussion, and saxophone. The courses, which were held last April, sold out some of their places within hours of opening registration, demonstrating the great interest generated by this new training program.
Now, the festival enters its artistic phase with a programme of high-level concerts that will take place from Tuesday 8th July to Friday 11th July. The festival kicks off on Tuesday at 9.00pm in the church of Sant Bertomeu with a recital by Marta Espinós, a pianist from Xàbia who has established herself as a national benchmark in musical research. Espinós will present her recital “Mare Terra,” a unique creation that delves into biodiversity through music from the last 300 years.
On Wednesday 9th, also at 9.00pm in the Plaza de la Iglesia, it will be the turn of percussionist Miguel Bernat, one of the greatest exponents of contemporary percussion in Spain. His surprising and multidisciplinary performance promises to leave no one indifferent.
On Thursday 10th at 9.00pm, the Plaza de la Iglesia will host the Músax saxophone ensemble. Nine saxophonists and a dancer make up this group that fuses music, dance, singing, and theater from a female perspective.
The festival will close on Friday 11th, with the traditional concert by Músics amb denominació d’origen Xàbia, a very special event that will bring together local musicians and, as Anna Bas has announced, is one of the most exciting events. This concert will also feature the world premiere of “El Pas de les Llums” by composer Pau Climent, a contemporary piece for saxophones and percussion inspired by the mathematical cadence of the Xàbia lighthouses, which will include an audiovisual projection.
The councillor responsible for Culture, Mavi Pérez (CpJ), wished to thank all the people who, with so much enthusiasm and effort, make this festival possible, which, she emphasized, “surprises, excites, and connects with the audience more each year.” Pérez also celebrated the success of the new format implemented last year, which offers a wide range of opportunities to conservatoire students in all musical disciplines, giving them the opportunity to train each year with highly qualified and prestigious musicians.
