The Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium has reactivated its summer fire station in Xàbia, a key resource for strengthening emergency prevention and first response during the months of greatest risk. Located in Camí del Riu Gorgos, close to Camping Jávea, the station will be on call from 10.00am to 10.00pm until the end of September.

This unit is part of the special surveillance and firefighting operation organized by the Consortium throughout the Marina Alta region. Three permanent checkpoints have been set up at strategic locations in the province: Santa Pola, Pilar de la Horadada, and Xàbia. All of them are staffed by a team consisting of a corporal, three firefighters, a communications operator, and a specialized fire-fighting vehicle, equipped to respond to forestry situations.

The operation is fully coordinated with the Policía Local, Protección Civil, and other institutional resources, with the goal of reducing response times and providing effective coverage in one of the province’s most ecologically valuable areas.

This deployment comes after weeks of uncertainty caused by tensions within the Consortium. Following several meetings held by the Department of Citizen Security and mayor Rosa Cardona with the Consortium’s leaders, the town hall has managed to ensure the operational presence of the checkpoint throughout the summer season, thus restoring peace of mind to residents and visitors.

The councillor responsible for Citizen Security, Juan Ortolá (CpJ), has positively assessed the reactivation of the unit: “It’s long-awaited news for the municipality. There were doubts, but it’s finally here. The summer fire department is an essential tool for responding quickly to any emergency situation, and their presence here is crucial for preserving our natural environment. I personally want to thank the commitment of the firefighters involved in the operation as well as the joint effort made to guarantee this essential public service in coordination with the rest of the security and emergency services.”

He also called for individual responsibility, reminding both residents and tourists of the importance of prevention at this time of year when the risk of fires increases.
