CEIP Mediterrània de Xàbia has been one of the six winning schools in the 2021 Sports Day video contest organised by the Fundación Trinidad Alfonso, an initiative that seeks to promote physical activity amongst schoolchidlren in the Comunidad Valenciana to mark the International Day of Physical Activity.

A record number of participants took part in the 2021 edition; more than 250,000 young people from 762 schools across the region. Among them, some 200 made a video showcasing the activities carried out during this special day, using the theme of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and six contributions were selected by jury, awarding a gift voucher of 2,000 euros.

The video produced by CEIP Mediterrània de Xàbia saw students perform a rap song in which they tell how they have come together to celebrate values such as self-improvement, equality, commitment, sportsmanship, effort, friendship and excellence. They also appear performing the various sports disciplines that feature in the Olympic Games and Paralympics, running with Olympic paper and cardboard torches as well as demonstrating their responsibility by producing the video whilst wearing face masks, as required for all citizens over the age of six.

The other winners were IES Serra d’Irta (Alcalá de Xivert), Colegio María Inmaculada (Carcaixent), CEIP La Pau de Casinos, Colegio Internacional Ausiàs March (Picassent) and CEIP La Pax (Callosa de Segura).

All participants received sports equipment worth 120 euros or, if they chose the charity option, the organisation invested the same amount to the social project Mueve-T (Fundación Dasyc).

The organisers have been very satisfied with the response from schools in the Comunidad Valenciana and stressed that, regardless of the result, “it is a victory for all children and teachers who made possible the celebration of the Sports Day, especially this year”. And they have already laid the foundations for the next edition with the aim of proving that the Comunidad Valenciana “is the region of sport” and that sport “is lived and celebrated in its schools”.
