Xàbia Council has presented the cultural season “Sorolla torna a Xàbia” with which it joins the commemorative acts for the centenary of the death of the most universal Valencian painter.

Following the path created in 2021 with the commemoration of the 125th anniversary of his first visit to the town, the municipality continues to value the link with the artist who was so inspired by the landscapes of Xàbia with a complete cultural programme.

Mayor José Chulvi explained that the fact that Xàbia is part of the Commemorative Commission and an Honor Committee of the acts of the centenary of the Sorolla Year organised by the Generalitat Valenciana has opened a magnificent opportunity to access level activities. In this sense, he announced that this summer the exhibition “Sorolla y La Edad de Plata del Arte Valenciano” will be exhibited with original paintings by Joaquín Sorolla, an exhibition in which they are working with the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia and that will spend the summer in Xàbia (July-September).

Chulvi has also highlighted another cultural milestone that will close “Sorolla torna a Xàbia” the programming that the Department of Culture has worked on and that covers almost the entire year. This is a concert by the prestigious soprano Ainhoa Arteta and the pianist Marta Espinós (on December 2nd) who will premiere a unique musical project inspired by the painter’s work.

The Councilor for Culture, Quico Moragues, also detailed all the acts that will make up this program dedicated to Sorolla and that started last month with the exhibition of the idea in bronze, by the sculptor Javier de Benito, through which 1,300 people have passed.

The next dates will be two conferences on the painter; one by historian David Gutiérrez (March 30th) and another by the director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Pablo González Tornel (May 10th). Local groups are also getting involved including a school drawing contest and the Photographic Association, which will also hold a photography contest dedicated to Sorolla during its annual rally.

In August a commemorative act will be held on the 100th anniversary of the painter’s death and in September César Suárez will present the book “Cómo Cambiar Tu Libro con Sorolla” and you will be able to enjoy a fashion show with designs by Alba García (Cache Croche) entitled Sorolla, fashion and sustainability. The program will close with the concert by Ainhoa Arteta, Marta Espinós and Luis Santana.
