The second edition of a competition promoted by the Municipal Archive aims to promote and expand the knowledge of the heritage and local history of Xàbia. Four research proposals were presented for the 2021 edition, assessed by a jury that consisted of Jaume Buigues i Vila (Institute of Regional Studies), Esperanza Morais Camacho (Council of Culture), Vicenta Cruañes Moragues (AMUX), Vicent Chorro i Cabrera (Retired Professor) and Juanjo Mas Cruañes (Municipal Archivist), which selected the project on the education sector as the more interesting.

The first edition of this special award was based on the link between Xàbia and the painter Joaquín Sorolla to mark the 125th anniversary of his first arrival in the town and won by historian David Gutiérrez Pulido. This second edition was the first with a free theme (although the research had to be on a local or regional level) and it had a cash prize of 4,000 euros.

To be eligible for the award, candidates had to submit a project report with the main points to be developed, the methodology and the bibliography to be used as well as the experience of the person or members of the research team.

Once the prize has been awarded, the research team will have one year to develop their research and produce a full project report.
