The flower crosses of Xàbia bring colour to the streets for just a couple of days at the beginning of May; a visit accompanied by music is a popular tradition.

Each year in early May, the town is briefly transformed by a burst of floral artistry. As part of the closing days of the festivities in honor of Jesús Nazareno, flower crosses appear across the historic centre and the port—vibrant, intricate creations that last only two or three days. Crafted by the year’s mayorales and devoted locals, these ephemeral displays can cost several hundreds if not thousands of euros and require days of meticulous preparation. Yet their purpose is not permanence, but beauty, devotion, and community celebration. As always, on May 1st, the crosses were visited with Colla Portitxol accompanying the walk through the port and La Tuna de Xàbia leading the way in the old town. The result: a unique blend of sound, scent, and colour that marks one of the most cherished moments in the local calendar.
