PHOTO GALLERY: Fogueres 2025 – Presentation of the Sashes

Xàbia is getting ready for the biggest party of the year – the Fogueres de Sant Joan. And, with just five days to go until the streets start to fill with colour, music, noise and fun, the town has officially begun its journey toward the 76th edition with one of its most symbolic events: the presentation of bands and insignia to the main protagonists of this year’s event.

Family, friends and the general public gathered in the Plaza de la Iglésia where this year’s queens, ladies, and presidents – Ainhoa ​​Buigues, María Mateo, Arantxa Ribes, Stephanie Dherte, Joan Cholbi, Laia Sedeño, Triana Berenguer, Ángela Bastida, Celia Cardona, and Marcos Tormos – received their awards from the mayor Rosa Cardona; the councillor responsible for Fiestas, Mavi Pérez (CpJ) and the President of the Fogueres Commission, Carmen Andrés.

The event, in addition to marking the official start of the celebrations, also witnessed a moving recognition: the presentation of the Distinction of Honor to the Penya L’Escaldà, an award, which recognizes the club’s long history and commitment to this magical fiesta which was accepted by Pepe Espinós on behalf of the penya which has been actively participating in Fogueres de Sant Joan for over 40 years.

Penya L’Escaldà has been a fundamental pillar of iconic events such as the Nit dels Focs, participating for years in the float parade where it represented traditional trades and always showing passion and dedication to the Fogueres, becoming an indispensable part of Xàbia’s fiesta history. This distinction gives them the honor of lighting the fifth bonfire on the Nit dels Focs de Sant Joan.
