KITE SAILOR MARTA SANCHEZ RETURNS TO COMPETITION IN FKSS2020

javeamigos.com | KITE SAILOR MARTA SANCHEZ HOLDS MEETING WITH SPORTS & CULTURE MINISTER

Local kite sailor Marta Sánchez from Club Náutico de Xàbia has resumed competition after the 2020 edition of the Formula Kite Spain Series (FKSS 2020) was suspended due to the COVID-19 health crisis. Marta is currently regarded as the second in Spain behind Gisela Pulido although her ambition is to reclaim her crown by the end of the year. The FKSS 2020 is one of the best kite sailing series in the world [link].

The first two heats were held earlier this month, the first on the reservoir of Alarcón in Castilla La Mancha over the weekend of 10-12 July whilst the second was held over the weekend of 17-19 July in Castellón in the Comunidad Valenciana. In Alarcón, Sanchez finished in 6th spot in the female category which was won by Gisela Pulido, although she was placed as the second-ranked Spaniard and placed 30th overall. In Castellón, she finished 7th - Pulido triumphed once again - and was ranked 33rd overall.

During the event at Alarcón, Sanchez took the opportunity to talk with José Manuel Rodriguez Uribes, Minister of Culture and Sport, who was responsible for awarding the prizes at the event. Sánchez has started a plan to regain her form as the best in Spain and to reach the top once again by the end of the year. She faces several more tests to achieve the ambition with the next FKSS 2020 heats in Pais Vasco, Mallorca (the dates of which are yet to be confirmed) with Formentera in October and the grand finale in the waters of Tarifa at the beginning of December.

She is combining the training and preparation for these races with her role as ambassador of the Fundación Water Sports Plastic Free [link] that is working to encourage the elimination of single-use plastic so long as it doesn't mean replacing with over non-environmentally friendly materials.
