As the region moves into Phase 2 of the de-escalation process, the Department of Sports in Xàbia has announced that the municipal padel and frontón courts will re-open, subject to the regulations set out by the contingency plans drawn up by the department which includes prior reservation 48 hours in advance.

The opening hours will be for padel Monday to Friday 08:30-14:30 / 16:30-22:00 and for frontón Monday to Friday 16:00-21:30. Court fees should be paid by card and users will need to provide official documentation such as DNI/NIE when booking. Courts can be reserved by phone on 965 792 000.

For padel, a maximum of four people is permitted per court and per session, playing doubles without changing end. The following time slots are available for Court 1: 08:30-10:00 / 12:30-14:00 / 18:30-20:00 whilst the following time slots are available for Court 2: 10:30-12:00 / 16.30-18:00 / 20:30-22:00.

For frontón, a maximum of four people is permitted per session, playing doubles. The following time slots are available: 16:00-17:00 / 17:30-18:30 / 19:00-20:00 / 20:30-21:30.

Users must wear face masks when accessing, moving around and exiting the facilities but they do not have to be worn during the exercise itself. The sport must be carried out avoiding any physical contact and a minimum distance of 2 metres must be respected. It is also essential to disinfect hands and shoes as well as all material and personal training equipment which will be kept in a plastic bag. ID must be presented for verification when accessing the courts. Toilet facilities will be available but should be used only when necessary and cleaned and disinfected after use. Changing room remain closed as well as equipment storerooms which can only be accessed by authorised personnel. All public water fountains remain out of use and users must bring their own water for drinking.

The department led by councillor Alberto Tur has also prepared some regulations for the responsible practice of sport, including respecting the time slots reserved for senior aged over 70 and observing the new freedoms that sport has gained from this new phase such as the freedom of movement throughout the province and the possibility of organising meetings with groups of up to 15 people but always respecting the interpersonal distances for sports (2m for running, 5m for swimming and 10m for cycling).

The Department advises a slow and progressive return to sports for anyone who hasn't been exercising regularly during the lockdown period to avoid injury and the risk of respiratory and cardiovascular problems. Gentle exercise at the start should help the body get used to working out again, increasing the intensity, duration and frequency gradually to prepare for a full return to sport. Warm-up sessions of 5-10 minutes are essential as well as stretches at the end of the sporting activity to relax the body. And adopting consistent healthy habits will help recovery.
