POLICE STEP UP ACCESS CONTROL; ARMY DEPLOYS TO SUPPORT THEM

javeamigos.com | XÀBIA MOVES APRIL'S LOCAL FIESTA TO OCTOBER 8

The authorities have stepped up controls at the access points into Xàbia to stop the arrival of tourists who may be attempting to ignore the movement restrictions imposed by the State of Alarm and travel to their second homes in the municipality. Officers from the Policía Local and Guardia Civil have mounted road blocks at all entrances into the town: from Gata, from Jesús Pobre and La Xara, and from Dénia.

The security forces have been reinforced by the Spanish Armed Forces, through their Special Operations Command (MOE), which has deployed to both Xàbia and Dénia. The military will be in charge of monitoring possible breaches of the restrictions of the State of Alarm, especially those related to movement, and will be deploying to various parts of the municipality including the Arenal promenade.

The coastal towns are considered to be of "special risk of infection" due to the attraction of the beaches as temperatures begin to rise and tempt people to leave their homes and drive to the coast. This week the police in Dénia have issued several warnings against people who were swimming in the sea and sunbathing on the beach. The army will be ensuring compliance with the measures by patrolling beaches and promenades.
