CD Jávea kept alive promotion
play-off hopes with a stunning away win at Racing Rafelcofer
CF. A brace from Favio and strikes from Lucas Bou, Ayoze
and Michael secured a 5-0 win amongst the orange groves
of Safor to keep the rojiblancos in fourth spot
but still three points adrift of the play-off zone since
UD Beniganim recorded an easy 2-0 home win over struggling
Pego CF. CD Dénia go top after a narrow
1-0 away win over UD Portuarios, overtaking UD Castellonense
who drew 1-1 at Muro CF. With four games remaining,
CD Jávea will need to secure maximum points and
hope that UD Beniganim stumble to claim their first
play-off spot for over 15 years.
Rafelcofer CF have been struggling at the wrong end
of the table for much of the season and had conceded
four away at in-form Dénia the previous weekend.
But they had been fighting for every point in the
last few games and CD Jávea had to approach the
game with as much as caution as they would have confidence.
And after eight minutes it would seem that they
would have a fight on their hands after influential
captain, a popular long-serving player at the club who
recently passed 300 appearance, had to withdraw injured
after just six minutes, to be replaced by Michael who
would be most influential in the second half.
on 14 minutes Favio thundered home a strike into the
bottom right of the net to put Jávea into the
lead and ease an early game nerves. Although the hosts
picked away at the solid Javea defence and occasionally
found a way through, they would encounter the commanding
presence of goalkeeper Edu who was determined to let
nothing through. The rojiblancos still boast the best
defence in the league, having conceded just 18 goals
in 30 games.
first half ended with the slim advantage for Jávea.
The second began with Jávea determined to extend
that advantage, pushing out the roller to crush the
opposition. On 56 minutes Lucas Bou met Michael's perfectly
measured cross to head home and double the
advantage, scoring his eighth goal after returning from
a long-term injury earlier in the season. Four minutes
later Favio scored his second and Jávea's third
whilst Ayoze put the game beyond all doubt on 64 minutes,
capitalising on some poor defensive work to smash home.
Eight minutes from time Michael claimed his first goal
of the season, just reward for some sterling work after
coming on as substitute, and it might have been more
had a sixth not been ruled out due to a foul.
