CD Javea crashed to only their
third defeat of the season at the hands of league leaders
UD Castellonense, failing to score for the first time
since early December. It was a heated game as temperatures
climbed towards to upper 20s, plenty of tough tackles,
a few pushes, the occasional shove and a total of eight
had the first real chance of the game, his snatched
shot after collecting a quick return pass sailing just
a little too high and wide. The home side then had a
decent chance from a free-kick on the left side, floated
it but collected well by Edu under pressure from the
attackers. A few minutes later the hosts drove down
the right and floated in a high cross which was claimed
by Edu once again under pressure from the opposition.
Jávea's Michael then charged down the left and
drove in a delightful low cross but the keeper claimed
the ball just before Paco could get a foot to it. Just
before half-time Castellonense might have scored the
opener after a great through ball broke the defence
and Edu had to charge off his line to block the shot.
The hosts were showing why they were top of the league.
second half saw more pressure from Castellonense which
would eventually lead to the only goal of the game,
a great cross from the left high over the crowded area
to the far side where Marcos Campos nodded home past
a stranded Edu. Jávea were restricted to snatched
long-range shots which flew well wide of the goal. But
they might have claimed a share of spoils close to the
end when a free-kick was floated into area which was
well met by substitute Favio but the effort was tipped
over the bar by the keeper.
