Jávea suffered their second defeat of the season in controversial circumstances

Sunday 3rd February 2019

CD Jávea suffered only their second defeat of the season - and their first on the road - in controversial circumstances after an 'equaliser' smashed home by Lucas Bou was ruled out by the referee on the strength of a very dubious offside decision and a penalty claim was waved away with just seconds remaining on the clock. The game was also marked by great performances by both goalkeepers and the determination of both sides to claim the points. CD Jávea remain sixth, two points adrift of the top three.

The first half saw few opportunities during which the strong wind favoured the hosts but they failed to take advantage of it. The first real attempt came on 23 minutes when Beniganim's goalkeeper Victor almost beat his counterpart Edu with a wind-assisted long clearance whilst Lucas forced Victor into a sensational save, connecting well to a floating cross from ex-Beniganim player Salóm. At the other end, the hosts thought they had opened the scoring through striker Gorga but his effort was ruled out for offside. The only other notable chances fell to Jávea's Lucas who forced Victor into two saves, the final one just before half-time.

The second half began with a chance for the hosts from Francesc but Edu was on hand to block the effort. Jávea's Lucas responded at the other end with a long-range shot with was deflected wide and the match quickly became one of an exchange of efforts. And then, on 55 minutes, Kevin put the home side in the lead with a long-range effort that beat Edu before Favio smashed home the equaliser just two minutes later. Beniganim applied the pressure and Edu had to be on top form to block a succession of chances before the hosts finally bundled home what would turn out to be the winner on 71 minutes through Villanueva. Jávea looked to get themselves back on level terms straight away and just a few minutes later Lucas thought he had smashed home the equaliser but the effort was ruled out for offside. On 83 minutes Favio might have scored but his effort was well-blocked by the keeper, the ball broke loose to Salóm but his shot was well-blocked again by the custodian. And then Beniganim charged down the other end of the pitch and forced Edu into another outstanding save. The final act of the game brought great controversy when Jávea won a free-kick just outside the area, a foul that they insisted was inside the area whilst the home players insisted that there was no foul. The free-kick was cleared by defender Sanchis at the near post, the final action of the game.
