Goals from Lucas, Palau and Paolo secure hard-fought win for Jávea

Monday 28th January 2019

CD Jávea continued to close the gap on the top three after a hard-fought 3-2 home victory over UE L'Alcudia. Goals from Lucas, Palau and Paolo secured maximum points in a bruising encounter against a determined side who clawed themselves back into the game twice before Paolo bundled home what would turn out to be the winner. The rojiblancos stretch their winning run to three games and although they remain in 6th spot, they are now just one point off the top three.

Jávea comfortably dominated the opening 15 minutes of the game with lots of possession of the ball but just couldn't find that decisive final ball to open the scoring. Leading scorer Palau was causing plenty of problems for the opposition down the left-hand side but the defence was working hard to contain in-form striker Lucas Bou. And then on 16 minutes Lucas almost broke the deadlock after some great work from Palau saw the striker half-volley over the advancing keeper but his dipping effort struck the bar. A minute later Michael pounced on a speculative looping pass forward but blasted his effort well wide.

L'Alcudia absorbed the pressure and then started to test the home defence, the best in the league, with several pushes down the left from Rafael with tested the young wing-back Ayoze. Containing the attack, Aldo then went on a mazy run down the left to the goal-line and then cut inside to charge on goal but excitement got the better of him and he smashed a shot into the side netting with both Palau and Lucas in better positions right in front of the goal. L'Alcudia then went down the other end and Pablo tried a shot from the edge of the area after some more good work from Rafael who capitalised on a rare defensive error by Ayoze but his effort was saved comfortably by Edu.

The first goal arrived on 27 minutes when Lucas pounced on a cross into the middle from the left to slide the ball past the advancing keeper to put Jávea into a deserved lead. But the lead was short-lived and on 32 minutes L'Alcudia's Nacho equalised to lift the spirits of the opposition. Jávea had to work hard against a determined side with Mario firing over the bar on 36 minutes and Rafael once again causing problems down the left flank. Half-time couldn't have come soon enough.

The second-half began with Jávea looking to retain the lead and Palau might have done so on 53 minutes when he broke through a resilient defence, rounded the advancing keeper but the custodian did enough to push the striker just a little too wide and the shot struck the base of the right-hand post. Three minutes later Jávea forced the first corner of the game as they continued to push forward and another three minutes later the goal finally came. Michael charged down the right and got in a great high ball across the face of the goal to Palau lurking by the far post whose header rebounded into the goal off the body of the keeper. 2-1.

But once again the lead was short-lived. L'Alcudia pushed forward and on 64 minutes forced a corner. The kick was taken by Nacho who sent the ball high into a crowded area and in the confusion it somehow found itself across the line for the equaliser. The game became a hard-fought battle of attrition with both sides making changes to try and change the game. Jávea started to get the upper-hand with both Aldo and substitute Favio going close. And the winner arrived on 77 minutes from a corner. Substitute Marcos took the kick and floated a delightful ball to the far post where defender Paolo was lurking to head the ball into the net at close range, a goal greeted by a huge roar from the stand. As the opposition looked to get back into the game once again, tempers frayed and L'Alcudia's Victor was dismissed on 87 minutes after receiving two yellow in quick succession. But Jávea held on to claim the win, their third in succession, and maintain their recovery to the top three.
