9th July 2015
as the summer season begins to kick in, the Ayuntamiento
de Xàbia has decided to close the launching ramp
in the Cala de la Granadella due to safety concerns
after a notable increase in traffic wanting to use it.
The closure will run from Friday 10th July until mid-October
and signs advising of such are to be located on
the beach, at the junction between Carretera de
la Guardia and Carretera de la Granadella and at the
start of the ravine.
Department of Services explained that staff charged
with monitoring and lifesaving at the beach had reported
problems that were being generated in the cove as well
as the access to the beach by an increase in vehicles
with boat trailers who have been wanting to use the
small ramp after the privatization of the Canal de la
Fontana where a fee is now charged for the launching
a result, the access point to the sea, which was
created by sailors from Xàbia and Poble Nou de
Benitatxell to launch their traditional fishing boats
and until recently had only been used by lifeguard launches
and local residents, has been overwhelmed and the situation
has led to the Ayuntamiento to temporarily close the
ramp to avoid problems, especially avoiding issues in
the possible event of an emergency launch for a rescue
in response to an accident or catastrophe.
the same time, the Ayuntamiento is looking for an alternative
location for the launching of small boats into the sea
and councillor Doris Courcelles (Beaches) has presented
a request to the Conselleria de Infraestructuras in
Valencia to re-open the public ramp in the Port de Xàbia.
At the time of writing, she is still waiting for a response.
