Work has restarted on the redevelopment of Avenida Jaume I in the port, the first phase of which was completed just before Christmas. The project, budgeted at 110,000 euros, has been widening the pavements, renewing street lighting and reorganizing parking along the main access route into the port area to provide a more aesthetically-pleasing first impression as well as improve pedestrian movement.

Mayor José Chulvi visited the area with councillor Paco Torres (Works) to observe the work being carried out by technicians from the municipal water company AMJASA to improve the supply of drinking water to the area as well as the removal of ornamental trees (jacarandas) as requested by residents in the area. During the redevelopment work, exit from the port area will be via Calle Santísimo Cristo del Mar.

Work is also beginning to finish the interior of the municipal building in Portal del Clot which has been unfinished for some years. The building will be made ready with the installation of service networks and the adaption of facilities for use by the offices of Urban Planning, Works and the local branch of the CREAMA employment initiative as well as a squad of the Policía Local. There will also be a space allocated for the municipa administrative archive. This is a major work scheduled to take five months to complete and which is budgeted to cost some two million euros and financed by a loan from the Instituto de Crédito Oficial (ICO), a state-owned bank attached to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the money secured by the previous administration specifically for this project. It is expected that the building will be completed between April and May.
