In 2011, artist Candy Chang created an phenomenon. Having suffered a long period of grief and depression after losing a loved one, she wanted to create a daily reminder of what really mattered in life not only to her but also to the people who lived around her. It's easy to be caught up in the day-to-day and forget what really matters to you, she said. Having been granted permission, she painted the side of an abandoned house in her neighbourhood in New Orleans into a huge backboard and stenciled it with the sentence "Before I die I want to ___________". Having left pieces of chalk, she hoped that people would reflect on their lives and share their personal aspirations in a public space. By the following day the wall was entirely filled out with the wishes of people in the neighbourhood - Before I die I want to --- sing for millions, straddle the International Date Line, live off the grid, abandon all securities, be completely myself. Three years later and there are more 500 walls in over 65 countries and over 30 different languages - and now Jávea will be offering the opportunity to ponder life's ultimate question.

From next Wednesday 30th July, a board will be installed in the port area with a single goal: that everyone passing by will write on it what they would like to do with their life before they die. Developed by Lifestrong Coachings, the wall has the support of the town with councillor Juan Luis Cardona inviting people to "stop for a moment to think about what you want to do with life and what your dreams are".

The group, which is made up from coaches in the area, proposed that Jávea be the entry point for the social campaign into the Comunidad Valenciana. Representatives Marián Martínez and Jordi Vilanova said that the urban activity is aimed at improving communication between people who are aware of the transient nature of life and this live their lives more thoroughly by considering their hopes and dreams as possible challenges.

The chalkboard will be four metres long by two metres high and installed on the port promenade from 11.00am on Wednesday 30th July. After the summer, the coaching group that has organised the project will schedule a day of workshops during which they will discuss the results which will have been recorded by photograph.
