CENTRE ANNOUNCES CHRISTMAS FESTIVITIES

has ready to immerse itself into the Christmas spirit
thanks to a varied programme of events prepared by the
town hall's Culture and Fiestas department in conjunction
with the trade association of Xàbia Histórica.
first date in the festive calender is the special session
of Christmas storytelling for children this Friday 14th
December at 6pm inside the town's public library
in Calle Major. At 8pm on the same day there will
be a special Christmas concert at the port chuch given
by the various musical associations of Jávea,
including the Centro Artístico Musical, el
Grup Polifónic Ars Nova and el Orfeón
Saturday 15th December, the Grup de Danses Portitxol
and la Rondalla will be offering a more traditional
performance at 8pm at the Convento de la Agustines
in Placeta del Convent whilst back down in the port
church at 9pm there wll be a benefit concert by Montgó
Chorale in aid of Cáritas.
the evening of Friday 21st December, the senior citizen
association Amanacer and the Colla Xirimitab's
will be roaming through the streets of the old town
offering carols and traditional Christmas music to entertain
shoppers and diners as they enjoy the colourful lights
and festive atmosphere.
Saturday 22nd December, there will be activities dedicted
to children and the Xàbia Histórica
association will be offering giant inflatables
and games in the Placeta del Convent from 10am
- 1pm and then 5pm - 8pm. During the afternoon,
Father Christmas will visit the Plaça del Baix
to collect letters from the children whilst later in
the evening there will be a special Christmas concert
inside the old fortress church of San Bartolomé
in the centre of town where the town's band will accompany
the Polifònic Ars Nova and the Orfeón
de Xàbia in a series of traditional and modern
festive songs. On the morning of the following day -
Sunday 23rd December - there will be the special Christmas
Carrera Popular Ciclista del Pavo which is a
special fun ride for cyclists, many in fancy dress,
which begins from the Placeta del Concent at 10am.
Christmas week itself, the popular "Shopping Night"
returns in the centre of the old town, an evening of
tapas and a festive atmosphere roaming the streets with
shopping until midnight in many of the shops of the
historic centre. And then on New Year's Eve, the trade
association is leading an initiative to welcome 2013
as a community in the church square where residents
can welcome the new year together listening to the chimes
ringing from the church tower. And the first 200 residents
will be offered grapes and cava to help them observe
the change of year.
festive programme will come to an end of the evening
of Saturday 5th January will the arrival of the Reyes
Magos to the delight of the town's youngsters. The
kings will arrive in the port by boat at about
5pm and take part in a special parade through the town.
Xàbia Histórica trade association
has launched a promotional competition called "Las
11 pagas extra de Xàbia Histórica"
which offeres 1,500 euros in prize-money to all customers
to purchase from participating partners during the festive
period. The top prize of a 500€ voucher will be
complemented by 10 vouchers of 100 euros each which
will be redeemable in businesses across the town and
the draw will take place on Tuesday 8th January inside
the Mercat Municipal.
