The Municipal Archive of Xàbia has improved its facilities thanks to a grant of 6,623 euros granted by the General Directorate of Heritage at the Ministry of Culture.

Councilor Quico Moragues (Culture) explained that with this help, the archive facility has been able to acquire two horizontal cabinets to store large documents such as plans, posters and photographs as well as a scanner for photographic negatives and slides. Moragues said that, with this equipment, it will be possible to digitize the graphic material contributed by the neighborhood, improving its conservation within the Archive and its possibilities of public dissemination.

The Municipal Archive of Xàbia, located in Carrer d’Avall in the historic centre, was inaugurated in October 2018, creating a special place to documentation, plans, maps, posters and photographs that are important to the history and development of the town. A lot of historical information was lost when the original municipal archive was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War and what remained had been stored away in boxes in various locations around the municipality.

The archive recently launched an online resource in which a series of articles with local historical content have been digitized to make access to them easier through the Internet to everyone interested in local culture and history – see the related link below.
