Tuesday 29th June 2021 – PRESS RELEASE with Mike Smith
The governing board of the Moors & Christians in Xàbia has confirmed that there will be no event this year. For the second year running, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the suspension of this popular fiesta which normally takes place during July.
A statement from the board read: “We want to stick together once more and prolong the flame of hope and our immense desire to celebrate these very endearing fiesta days once again with the normality that characterizes them and as long as the health circumstances allow it. We also want to send a big hug and make a special mention to all those people who, directly or indirectly, are dedicated to this sector and are suffering the difficulties of the current economic crisis“.
The statement also confirmed that the current representatives who were supposed to be the face of the fiesta in 2020, will continue in force: Lucía Llidó Vallés and Carla Llidó Bertolín as the standard bearers for each side and Filà Ballesters as Captain of the festivities with Florencio Mata Crespo and Rosa Catalá Torres at the helm.
